Coinbase Commerce Alternatives (2026): 7 Options Compared

Crypto payment rails for web2 apps

Coinbase Commerce was Coinbase's checkout for merchants who wanted to accept crypto. It is now part of Coinbase Business: when we checked on 31 October 2026, coinbase.com/commerce redirected to the Coinbase Business page, which says the account "is currently available in the US and Singapore."

If you are outside those markets, want a published fee before you sign up, or need subscriptions, you need an alternative. This post explains what changed and compares 7 options on fees, recurring billing, custody and stablecoins.

Disclosure: OrcaRail publishes this blog and is one of the options below. Competitor facts come from each provider's own pages, linked, with the date we checked. Pricing changes, so confirm with the provider before you decide.

What is Coinbase Commerce

Coinbase Commerce let a business accept crypto through a hosted checkout, payment links and an API, with payments credited to a Coinbase account. Coinbase has folded these tools into Coinbase Business.

What the Coinbase Business page says (checked 31 October 2026):

  • Availability: US and Singapore, "with plans to expand to more markets."
  • Fee: "Coinbase Business charges a fee on each completed payment. Log into your Coinbase Business account to view current fees." Converting USDC to USD is also "subject to a fee."
  • Products: payment links, a Checkouts API for adding crypto to an existing checkout, and payouts.

So the main reasons teams look for a Coinbase Commerce alternative are country coverage, a fee they can see before applying, recurring billing, and where the money is held.

Network (gas) fees are extra everywhere. Who pays them depends on the provider and your settings.

OrcaRail

OrcaRail is a developer-first API for stablecoin checkout and subscriptions.

  • Fee: 0.5% per completed transaction on the hosted platform; the first 1,000 transactions are free. Self-hosted OrcaRail has no OrcaRail fee. See pricing.
  • Networks: more than 70 mainnets (EVM chains, Solana and Bitcoin), including Base, Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum and Optimism. Tron is not supported yet. See Networks and tokens.
  • Recurring billing: a payment link per cycle, or auto-charge that pulls each renewal from an ERC-20 allowance (EVM) or SPL delegation (Solana). See subscriptions.
  • Custody: non-custodial by default. Payments settle to withdrawal addresses you control.
  • Tooling: REST API, signed webhooks, Node and PHP SDKs, a Laravel Cashier package, a WooCommerce plugin and an MCP server.
  • Testing: free sandbox organizations on testnets with ak_test_ keys.

Stripe stablecoin payments

Stripe accepts stablecoins and pays out in your local currency.

  • Fee: 1.5% of the transaction amount (checked 13 October 2026).
  • Tokens: USDC on Tempo, Ethereum, Solana, Polygon and Base; USDP and USDG on some chains, US only.
  • Recurring billing: yes. Limits: $10,000 per customer transaction, and no dispute support.
  • Good fit if you already use Stripe and want fiat settlement.

NOWPayments

NOWPayments supports a long list of coins.

  • Fee: its pricing page says transaction fees "start from 1%," with an extra 1% exchange fee when the coin you receive differs from the coin the customer pays in.
  • Recurring billing: a recurring payments API that sends invoices each period.

CoinGate

CoinGate is a hosted processor based in the EU.

  • Fee: 1% per transaction on the Standard plan; Enterprise pricing is custom.
  • Recurring billing: its Billing product sends crypto invoices, including scheduled ones.
  • Plugins: WooCommerce, WHMCS and others.

BitPay

BitPay is one of the oldest crypto processors and can settle to a bank account.

  • Fee: 2% + $0.25 per paid invoice under $500K a month, falling to 1% + $0.25 above $1M (BitPay support, checked 13 October 2026). The fixed $0.25 weighs on small payments.
  • Recurring billing: invoice-based; the customer pays each bill.

MoonPay Commerce (formerly Helio)

MoonPay Commerce grew out of the Solana ecosystem.

  • Fee: 1% or 2% per transaction; high-risk platforms pay at least 2%. Swaps add 0.25% and fiat settlement 0.5%.
  • Recurring billing: subscriptions are supported.

BTCPay Server

BTCPay Server is free, open-source, self-hosted software focused on Bitcoin and Lightning.

  • Fee: no processing fee; you run and pay for the server.
  • Custody: fully non-custodial. Recurring billing: not a core feature.
  • Good fit if you mainly take Bitcoin and want to run your own stack.

How to switch from Coinbase Commerce to OrcaRail

  1. Open a sandbox. Sign up at app.orcarail.com and create a sandbox organization with an ak_test_ key.
  2. Choose what you receive, for example USDC on Base. List options with GET /payments/networks and GET /payments/networks/:id/tokens.
  3. Set withdrawal addresses for each chain family (EVM, Solana, Bitcoin), so funds go straight to your wallets.
  4. Replace the checkout call. Where you created a Commerce charge, create and confirm a payment intent and redirect to the hosted pay page. Customers can pay in other tokens or networks; the quote adds a bridge fee they pay, and you still receive the full amount.
  5. Replace the webhook handler. Verify the signature and fulfill orders on payment_intent.completed.
  6. Move subscriptions to OrcaRail subscriptions if you billed recurring customers by hand.
  7. Go live with a live organization and an ak_live_ key.

FAQ

Is Coinbase Commerce shut down?

The Commerce page now redirects to Coinbase Business, which Coinbase describes as the home of its business payment tools. Existing users should check their account and Coinbase's notices for dates that apply to them.

What does Coinbase Business charge for payments?

Coinbase does not publish the rate on its Business page. It says a fee applies to each completed payment and that current fees are shown after you log in.

Yes. OrcaRail's REST API creates payment intents, returns quotes and sends signed webhooks. See the Payment Intents API reference and our guide to the stablecoin payment API.

Which alternative supports crypto subscriptions?

OrcaRail, Stripe and MoonPay Commerce support subscriptions; NOWPayments and CoinGate send recurring invoices. OrcaRail can also charge renewals automatically on-chain. See recurring crypto payments.
